Do you want to influence student life, bring forward important perspectives, and learn about decision-making in practice? Now is your chance – the Student Union Kaakko Representative Council elections are here, and you can be part of the change.
The elections are once again approaching, and now is the time to step forward as a candidate.
The Representative Council is the highest decision-making body of the Student Union. Each year, 20 regular members and 20 deputy members are elected for a one-year term. During the term, the council meets at least three times: in the spring meeting, the autumn meeting, and the inaugural meeting. The council’s role is to make the most important decisions concerning the Student Union and to oversee the work of the Executive Board.
Any member of Student Union Kaakko who has registered as present for the academic year and paid the membership fee before the nomination period closes is eligible to run. Running for the council is free of charge, and no previous experience is required.
As a council member, you will have the opportunity to influence matters that affect students, gain experience in decision-making, and network with amazing people. This is an excellent opportunity to learn advocacy skills that will also benefit you in working life. In addition, serving on the council can earn you 5 ECTS credits for your freely elective studies at the bachelor’s level.
You can submit your candidacy by filling out the nomination form on Kaakko’s website or through the link below.

Candidates may also choose to join an electoral alliance, which consists of one or more candidates. Being part of an alliance can improve your chances of being elected, as the proportional representation system combines the votes of all alliance members. Electoral alliances can be formed, for example, by students from the same field of study, student associations, students from a specific campus, political organisations, or groups of friends.
It is also possible to form an electoral ring, which consists of two or more electoral alliances and can further increase the chances of success in the elections.

Voting will be conducted electronically, and all members of Student Union Kaakko are eligible to vote – meaning you must have a valid student card. Each member will receive a voting link in their student email. If you are not running yourself, you can still make an impact by voting for a candidate in the 2026 Representative Council who will represent your voice.
The election results will be published on the Student Union’s website and social media channels. Once the results are confirmed, the new Representative Council will hold its inaugural meeting, where the chairperson, vice-chairperson, and the new Executive Board will be elected.
Student Union Kaakko encourages all interested students to take this opportunity and get involved. Serving on the council offers a chance to make a real difference in student life, learn decision-making skills, and network with a diverse range of people.
