Students Esa Hämäläinen and Päivi Räsänen are the brightest successors in the representative council elections of the Student Union of Southeastern Finland University of Applied Sciences

The election result of the Student Union Kaakko representative election was published on Thursday 10 November 2022. The election was particularly successful by Esa Hämäläinen from Savonlinna, and Päivi Räsänen, a Joensuu-based student who is completing online studies.

The electoral alliance represented by Esa Hämäläinen called Tradenöörit was most successful in the elections. The electoral alliance cashed in four seats for itself. The Green List also gained four seats in the Representative Council.

– I am extremely surprised by the result. I will try to do everything in my power in the coming season so that my electors’ votes are not wasted, and that their wishes fall in the ears of the decision-makers, Esa Hämäläinen commented.

The uncommitted Päivi Räsänen, who came second in the overall results, received the most votes in the delegate elections with 81 votes. Räsäsen’s vote tally was nearly 30 more than the result of the next highest number of votes.

– The cornerstones of my campaigning were support for remote-learning and online learning and student mental health services activities. These are things that I have in some time studies myself struggled with. From the number of votes, I could interpret that I have not been the only one. It is often easier to promote and talk about things through my own experiences – these are the ideas I intend to bring up in the meetings of the delegate,” says Päivi Räsänen.

The 2022 representative election of the Student Union of Southeastern University of Applied Sciences was held in October/November and the official election date was 9 November 2022. Each year, 20 regular and a maximum of 20 deputies are elected to the Representative Council. The Delegate Council exercises the student union’s top decisionary power in the student union and its period of operation is the calendar year.
