Board Application 2024
Are you interested in influencing student affairs, advocating for student interests, or perhaps organizing and developing events and member services? If you answered even tentatively yes to any of these aspects, apply to join the Student Union Kaakko’s board!
Previous organizational or advocacy experience is not mandatory, but it can be beneficial. To apply for the board, you must have a valid membership in the Student Union Kaakko. We offer compensation based on the tasks and responsibilities, and participation in the activities can earn you study credits, course completions, and an official work certificate.
Board Responsibilities
The board manages the daily operations of the student union in collaboration with the staff from the student union offices located at the Kotka, Kouvola, Mikkeli, and Savonlinna campuses, both on-site and remotely via Teams. In addition to leading daily tasks and teams, the board actively engages in student advocacy, represents the student union, and ensures the implementation of the action plan.
Each board member is responsible for one or more teams, overseeing and participating in their activities. Despite the teams, a significant portion of the board’s work is done collaboratively.
Role in the Board
The student union board is a “working board,” meaning the board position is full-time and comes with a monthly paid. The elected board’s term is for a calendar year, but the selected board members will begin familiarizing themselves with their responsibilities already in the current year.
Board Composition
The board consists of a President of the board, 3 vice-presidents, and 3-6 board members. The composition of the board is determined annually by the representative council during the organizational meeting.

Application Deadline: November 30th
The application form can be filled out until 3:00 PM on November 30th.
You can also nominate yourself during the representative council meeting on November 30th, where the selection will take place. Please note that representatives will have more time to get to know you if you fill out the form in advance.
Representative Council Organizational Meeting on November 30.
The Representative Council meeting will be held on November 30, starting at 3:00 PM. During the Representative Council meeting, various matters will be decided, including the election of the 2024 board. You can participate in the meeting either remotely via Teams or physically from the Kotka, Kouvola, Mikkeli, and Savonlinna campuses. If you wish to attend the meeting on campus, please register for the meeting HERE.
Orientation: December 8th – 10th
The orientation weekend for the 2024 representative council and board will take place on December 8th – 10th, 2023, at the Ruunaniemi camp center in Ristiina. Participation in the event is free for the 2024 participants. The orientation will also include the organizational meeting of the 2024 board on December 9th.
